  1. Hey Matt,
First, nice set of web mixes. Thanks for sharing! I have a question about your use of Symbaloo. I began setting up web mixes a while back when the tool first came out. But, I was a bit worried about the inability to block access to web mixes that weren’t for kids. Do you embed your web mixes in a web page for child access? Or, has the Symbaloo team added more features to the settings that allow selective access? Guess I’ll have to take another look at the tool. I haven’t done so in a while.

    • Matt Gomez says:

Charlie, we will be embedding the mixes this year. In the last the kids logged into our grade level account and used it from there. The kids don’t search for other mixes so it hasn’t been an issue for us. I suggest reaching out to Symbaloo with your question, they are very quick to answer questions and offer support.

These are wonderful… thank you, Matt! I am setting up old ipods and even iphones for my classroom for use with Word Work and Listen to Reading. Do you use these tools in your room? Can these ebooks be downloaded onto these devices? I also have 3 new mP3 players to load. Any suggestions for free books I can download for these devices? I am new to all of this technology, including Symbaloo, etc. so PLEASE forgive my ignorant questions to an expert like yourself!

    • Matt Gomez says:

Heather, you can play the webmixes directly from the links on the iPod and iPhone except for the National Geographic and Starfall (because they require Flash) The others you don’t need to download anything, just copy the web address into safari and they will work. Let me know if I can help further, all questions are appreciated :)

  3. Eve says:

Thank you so much for your web

  4. Hi Matt, I actually did reach out to them and they did respond very quickly. However, they never moved to make any education-related safety options like I suggested to them. However, embedding the mixes makes the problem less likely. So, I may retry the tool and see how it goes.

thanks for sharing..I just learned how to use Symbaloo this summer and have had fun finding ways to put some of my favorite bookmarks on it so it will be ready for my kindergarten kids this fall..It will be my first year with ipads also so I am curious how this can be used with that?

These stories will be an awesome fit for our Listen to Reading time, Lab choices and sharing with families

  6. Thanks, Matt! This is an amazing resource. Thank you for your hard work!

  7. PL Chensee says:

A BIG thank you to Matt for sharing your web mixes. Thank you for the hours you have put in to make this possible for our 21st century learners. I have embedded it into our class weebly and the kids love using it each night.

  8. Mary Beth Kreml says:

Matt, I work with teachers across the country; and I have been sharing your web mixes with primary teachers. You cannot imagine what a phenomenal resource you have created! These are helping young children enjoy reading and helping them understand fluency. Many, many thanks for this truly amazingly helpful resource.

  9. Heather says:

    Hi Matt:
Is there any chance you have a list of the 170 books on this page either with or without the author’s names? It would be great to bring along to the library so we could check the book out and also listen to it being read online.

  12. Kathy Macomber says:

How can I copy and share the web mixes that I like (that you have shared on here) in a smart notebook file so that I can use it on the smart board next year? Are they able to be copied?

    • Matt Gomez says:

Sorry I am not familiar with smart boards. You can simply use the link and share that on the board. Don’t know if it will be interactive. The great people at Symballo have excellent support. I suggest you reach out to them. I’m sure someone has done what you are asking.

  13. Kathy Macomber says:

If they are able to be copied, please tell me specifically how to do it, please? I am new to symbaloo.

  14. Jenn Sandles says:

    Matt you’re awesome!
I very much enjoyed your presentation last year at the conference in Las Vegas.
I’m looking to use these resources on an iPad. Does National Geo require a subscription to view the magazines? What about Starfall?
