5 Ebook Resources for Elementary

Here are five of my favorite resources for online ebooks for young kids. I have created a Symbaloo webmix for each one, if you are not familiar with Symbaloo all you need to do is save the link to the webmix and your kids can read the books directly from the webmix. Each “tile” is a live link to a story and it is easy for the kids to use. Symbaloo is an amazing tool for young kids because it is visual bookmarking.

#1: Barnes and Noble Storytime– This is my newest webmix and it has 16 classic stories for young kids and most are read by the author of the book. Click the image below to be taken to the webmix. If you want the link to the original resource click here.

#2 Nation Geographic Young Explorer– Finding non fiction ebooks is difficult and these are amazing. Click the image below to be taken to the webmix. If you want the link to the original resource click here.

#3 Storyline Online – These books are read by popular actors and they have been a favorite in my class the last few years. Click the image below to be taken to the webmix. If you want the link to the original resource click here. You will see that the bottom part of the webmix is some of the National Geographic stories, I just added them to fill out the page.

Thanks for sharing even more webmixes. I need to write a post for my class parents, sharing out each of the mixes we use in class and encouraging them to start their own accounts for home use. So many wonderful things have been shared via #kinderchat that I always have great learning tools on hand for my class.

Love your mixes, Matt. Can you say more about using Starfall phonics books. Do you have kids work on these during center time, or individually? I use Starfall books with kindergarten classes in a lab setting and would like your input as to how you are ‘assigning’ their use in the classroom. Thanks!

Diann, The Starfall webmix is used as a computer choice during literacy centers in my class. We have 7 student computers and that webmix is an option along with other literacy wemixes I make

  4. Storia by Scholastic is another great resource for eBooks. 5 free books when the app is downloaded. Bonus points can be used to buy books. Books can be assigned and students progress is recorded. Check it out.

Thank you so much! I am teaching Kindergarten for the first time and was looking for ways to integrate technology and create a home/school connection. This will be a great start. Again, THANK YOU!
