I really enjoy giving kids opportunity to create abstract art (see here). I also try to incorporate collaboration as often as possible. This project includes both.
At the time I planned this activity I was seeing a lot of discussion about International Dot Day. Even though we didn’t participate this year it had an influence on me picking dots for the mural. We used paint dotters (found here) and the kids worked in groups of 4-6 to create a mural. I think they look amazing and the kids were very proud of the finished products! Special thanks to my coworker Kenna for letting me grab pics of the finished projects in her class… I forgot to do that before sending mine home.
I especially love how the paint would splatter depending on the amount of force they applied and the way the colors mixed together as the painted on top of dots.
